How everything started...
VSM is the brand name of "VSM · Vereinigte Schmirgel- und Maschinen-Fabriken AG" (United Abrasive and Machine Manufacturers) founded by Siegmund Oppenheim and Siegmund Seeligmann in 1864. What started with the production of glass paper, became after 50 years a specialist in the production of coated abrasives with main production location in Hanover-Hainholz.

Starting an in-house cloth treatment plant, VSM developed to one of the biggest companies in the abrasives market at that time. The massive destruction during the Second World War could not stop VSM’s success. Due to revenue reserves and the eager support of the employees the production was running again by October, 5th 1945.

In the following years a belt converting line, storage capacities, laboratories, testing facilities, a modern training centre as well as the continuous enlargement of the production capacities were implemented and finally made VSM into the leading company in the abrasives industry which we know today.
